Martin Cotton started life in racing in 1991 at the British racing school . He then went on to spend a 3 year apprenticeship with Sir Mark Prescott. Under Sir Mark Martin Gained Vital experience that would set him up for a career in Horseracing second to non . Whilst at Sir Marks Martin also got himself involved in Boxing and followed this up to a high level . After leaving Sir Mark in 1994 He had a 3 month working holiday in Japan gaining track experience and positively learning his trade . On his return. To the UK he was offered a Jockey license at Ben Hanbury in Newmarket where over a 2 year period had a handful of rides on track . Looking to forward his career further he moved to Wgm Turner in Sherbourne Dorset and his trainer was very forthcoming with Rides . But due to weight issues Martin had to leave after only 6 months . This opened the door to him to ride for one of the world's best trainers .Sir Henry Cecil where he spent 3 seasons riding numerous group 1 horses . Including Bosra Sham . Sleepytime and Oath .. looking to expand further went onto ride over the Jumps with Stan Mellor in Lambourn . But wasn't to special at that side of the sport . In the Latter part of his riding career he rode for Karl Burke who really looked after him allowing him to ride his best seasons although not riding a Winner . He rode Many Placed horses and rode in some Big Races . In 2000 Martin took himself off to USA for 3 month Breaking Breeze up horses for Kip Elser in South Carolina . But on his return after having a few hair raising incidents decided to have a break from riding ..
